Flower Offering Ceremony

Sunday 27 October 2024: From 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

On 27 October, the Japanese Garden invites everyone to join our Flower Sacrifice Ceremony. Everyone can sacrifice a flower. You can bring it yourself. On this day, this one flower becomes a symbol of our gratitude and respect. With gentleness, it is returned to the earth. It shows us the cycle of life, the cycle of our lives. After the ceremony, the flowers are offered outside at the Shinto shrine.

Silence and respect for nature remain the most important symbols of the Japanese Garden. We like to end the season in this atmosphere. The ceremony is in cooperation with Yo E An, an organisation that studies and practices Shingon Buddhism, one of the largest streams of Japanese Buddhism.

If you don't have a flower to offer, you can always get one from the garden.

Programme:

14:00: Start welcoming word of welcome and brief explanation of the ceremony
14:30: Ceremony
15:00: Silent procession to Shinto shrine to offer flowers
