From May 2019 to May 2021, work will take place on some roads around the Japanese Garden.
Below you will find how to reach the Japanese Garden.
ACCESSIBILITY AND PARKING
With public transport
- Get off at the “Rijksadministratief centrum” stop
The bus stops "Rijksadministratief centrum" are located on Koning Boudewijnlaan near the parking "Koning Boudewijn parking - Hawaii"
Take one of the following lines:
Line 45 towards Maaseik / Maastricht
Line 36 towards Genk
Line 20a towards Lanaken / Maastricht
Line 11 towards Maaseik
Walk towards the center of Hasselt, follow the cycle path towards junction 97 to the entrance of the Japanese Garden.
- Get off at the “Hasselt Swimming Pool” stop
The bus stops “Hasselt Swimming Pool” are located in the Elfde-Liniestraat.
All lines stop at “Hasselt Swimming Pool”.
Stroll through Kapermolen Park to the entrance of the Japanese Garden.

By car
- You can park for free in our parking lot along the Gouverneur Verwilghensingel.
- Our address cannot be found on the GPS. So it is best to fill in "Gouverneur Verwilghensingel 13". That is the address of Schaatsbaan Schaverdijn and Sport Vlaanderen Hasselt.
- ATTENTION: DO NOT take the service road after the intersection G. Verwilghensingel / Elfde-Liniestraat, but DO take the service road in the bend, this is the road that runs next to the Gouverneur Verwilghensingel.
- Then it is about 20 meters further on your right. Drive through the Japanese red gate (torii) and there you will find our parking.
- Are you already at the big next traffic lights? Then you are too far. But you can turn right here towards the center of Hasselt (Koning Boudewijnlaan) and turn right again at the traffic lights, here you can park in the “Koning Boudewijnlaan parking - Hawaii” car park.

By bike
The Japanese garden is located at junction 97 of the Limburg Cycle Route Network.
In November 2020, the contractor started the construction of the definitive cycle paths.
As a result, the temporary bicycle path along the Provinciehuis is no longer available.
Cyclists will follow a diversion via Bosstraat until the end of the works (spring 2021).

On foot
- If you come from parking Koning Boudewijnlaan - Hawaii:
Follow the cycle path to the right to the entrance
- Are you coming from Park Kapermolen:
Follow the cycle path to the right to the entrance
- If you come from the Japanese Garden car park:
Walk to the roundabout with the large weeping willow, follow the narrow dirt road, follow the cycle path to the left to the entrance
