De Wijers

The vast land of 1001 ponds is enchantingly beautiful. But why are there actually so many ponds here? The district guides will be happy to tell you more. They will show you around the most beautiful spots. Maybe you will come across a bittern? After this walk, you will appreciate the fauna and flora even more.

You will find more information and the reservation form on the website of De Wijers.

Cycling Through Water

Fietsen door het Water is located at node 91 of the cycle route network in the domain of Bokrijk, which in turn forms part of the vast pond landscape of De Wijers.

The cycle path leads you right through a pond, all the way from one bank to the other.  In the middle, the water is at eye level on both sides. You feel, see and smell the water. A beautiful and unique view over this piece of nature.

Herkenrode Abbey Site

The Herkenrode Abbey site has a rich history. So there are lots of fascinating stories to discover. Would you like to know more about the women who lived in the abbey for 600 years? Let yourself be carried away in the Experience Centre and experience both the flowering periods, filled with opulence, splendour and glory, and the difficult times filled with war, illness and violence. Rather curious about the Herbs and Inspiration Garden? A guide will gladly give you a word on the design of the herb park, outlining how people of all times and cultures use herbs.
Taster: fancy a 'different' guided tour, with humour and anecdotes? Set off with Joséphine de Gondrécourt, the last abbess of Herkenrode!

You can find all group visits on the Herkenrode Abbey website.
