How much is a ticket?

A regular ticket is 6 euros, a discount ticket is 4,5 euros and a student ticket is 1 euro.

How can I buy tickets?

You can buy a ticket in advance via the "Tickets" button or via the link below.

You can also buy a ticket on site at the box office, but you may have to wait in line longer during the busy period. If tickets at the box office sell out, you won't be able to enter the garden. Therefore, we recommend buying tickets online. 

When can we visit the Japanese Garden?

We open from March 21st until October 31st 2024.

  • From Tuesday until Sunday from 10h until 17h.
  • On holidays in the afternoon from 13h until 17h.
  • Closed on mondays (unless it's a holiday).
  • Last admissions at 4:30 PM

 

Are dogs allowed?

No, pets are not allowed. Only assistance dogs are allowed in the Japanese garden if you can show an official certificate.

We do ask you to be respectful of the Garden and other visitors and to keep everything clean.

All other pets are NOT allowed in the Japanese Garden. Also no small animals in a pram or handbag.

Is the Japanese Garden accessible by wheelchair?

Yes, all the paths in the Japanese Garden are wide and most of them are hard. Only the stones at the waterfall, the bridge over the ceremony pond and the steps up to the tea house are not accessible.

The accompanying person of a wheelchair user can get in for free. People with a disability can enter for free.

 

How do I get to the Japanese Garden?

By bus you can take the 12, 20a, 20b, 36a, 36b, 44, 45 busses ad you get off at the 'Hasselt Rijksadministratief Centrum'. The Japanese Garden is now only a couple of steps away.

By bike the Japanese Garden lays at the bikecrossing numbered 97 on the bike plans.

By car you drive on the 'big' ring around Hasselt. Then on the Gouverneur Verwilgensingel the Japanese Garden is located next to the ice skating rink Schaverdijn. Drive past the ice skating rink and then drive on the side road next to the main road to enter the parking of the Japanese Garden through the big red Japanese gate. You can also park your car at the Hawaii parking on the Koning Boudewijnlaan.

Is there a cafeteria? Can I buy food or drinks?

There is no cafeteria in the garden.  However, there is a drinks machine, a coffee machine and a snack machine.

During events and in the weekends, caterers and food trucks are present.

You may always bring your own picnic and eat it in the Japanese Garden. 


 

Can we take our wedding pictures or organize a photoshoot?

Yes of course! This can be done during opening hours from 10am to 5pm.  But keep in mind that taking pictures with a drone is prohibited, that you cannot step or stand on the moss and that you have to be attentive towards the other visitors.

For wedding pictures: as a marrying couple, in wedding attire, you can enter the Japanese Garden for free. Your photographer and other accompanying people will still have to pay their ticket. If you come to take your wedding pictures please let us know two weeks before so that we can inform our staff.

When are the cherry blossoms in bloom?

The cherry blossoms are only in bloom for a few weeks during spring. This period runs from the end of March to the end of April - beginning of May. Depending on the weather situation, this can change every year by one to two weeks.

In the Japanese Garden there are a total of three blossom waves from different blossom trees. These grow within the flowering period, each at a different time.

Are there toilets in the Japanese Garden?

The toilets are located at the back of the garden.  One of them is also accessible for wheelchair users.
