The Japanese Garden will be reopening after its winter break on Sunday 31 March 2019.

On that day, you will discover the Japanese Garden in its bright spring clothing and have a chance to immerse yourself in Japanese culture again by attending one of the guided walks with integrated Japanese music demonstrations and workshops (for beginners).

  • The guided walks are at 11h, 12h, 13h, 14h and 15h and last one and a half hour each.
  • During the walk, there will be 6 stops, of which 2 will be music workshops: 1 taiko (Japanese drumming) workshop and 1 Japanese dance workshop. When participating, please wear loose and easy clothing!

On this particular day, we will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. (instead of 5 p.m.).

But for a good reason, as on that evening you will have a unique opportunity to attend the theatre concert on the theme of “Kojiki”, starting at 5.30 p.m. This ancient Japanese legend tells the story of how Japan came into being, the Shinto gods and the triumph of good over evil. The artists in the Kojiki are Grete Moortgat of the Belgian taiko (drum) group Feniks Taiko and a number of their members, Chieko Kojima of KODO and a number of members of the popular Japanese taiko (drum) group Bonten.

You can only attend the theatre concert if you buy a ticket. You can buy your tickets here or underneath this page, by clicking the button "buy tickets". The ticket includes entry to the Japanese Garden on that day between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. (When having problems buying the tickets, please contact us at japanesegarden@hasselt.be .)

The concert itself will last one hour, i.e. until 6.30 p.m. The gates of the Japanese Garden will be opened again for ticket-holders from 5 p.m.

Normal price: 15 euro p.p.

Senior citizens 65+ and children aged 12 and under: 10 euro p.p.

Of course, if you wish to visit the Japanese Garden without attending the concert, normal rates apply.

All combi-tickets for the concert with Bonten in the Zuiderpershuis in Antwerp on Friday 29 March 2019 and the Kojiki theatre concert in the Japanese Garden on 31 March are sold out. You can be put on a waiting list by sending an email to b.i.faling@hotmail.com .
